The 2005 HPI Works Challenge in Singapore was held at the Race Craft
Infinity in the suburbs of Singapore on Sunday, June 19, 2005.
The track is located in a quiet site with a nice view of a cluster of
high-rise buildings in Singapore and there are a golf course and a restaurant
on the premises to attract many visitors. The 2005 HPI Works Challenge
was the first HPI Works Challenge in Singapore and we received many inquiries
for the event. In addition to Singaporeans including some Filipinos living
in Singapore, there were drivers from Malaysia and Thailand to make an
international atmosphere.
Two world champions, Surikarn Chaidajsuri and Atsushi Hara, came to the
event with the Hot Bodies CYCLONE, which had made a sensational debut
in the 2005 Thailand International Touring Car race (TITC). Everyone seemed
to be excited about the erformance of the CYCLONE.
The temperature of Singapore is around 30 degrees Celsius on average and
the weather was perfect with nice sea breezes on the weekend. The Electric
Touring Open Modified Class and the Stock HPI 23T Class were held in the
2005 HPI Works Challenge in Singapore. Even after a long flight, Atsushi
Hara and Surikarn showed up in the track on Saturday for practice. The
world's strongest team consisting of two world champions, the best car
with the highest performance, and Masayuki Miura to prepare perfect settings
already drew attentions from many other drivers.
Stock HPI 23T Class
Surikarn participated in the class with the CYCLONE! In the class where
only HPI 23T motors were allowed to use, the erformance
of the CYCLONE stood out even more. As everyone had expected, Surikarn
showed his overwhelming performance to win the TQ and and the championsip
without letting anyone else come close to him. The spectators gave long
applause to Surikarn, the world champion who was raised in Thailand where
RC race activities are quite big.

The performance of Atsushi Hara, the strongest world champion, attracted
everyone's attention. The drivers from Singapore and Thailand were all
excited about the chance to compete with him. Meen, another Thai driver
who has engaged in fierce competition with Surikarn for years, was one
of them and spectators were also looking forward to how he would challenge
the two world champions: Atsushi and Surikarn. Atsushi demonstrated outstanding
speed and perfect racing style with his new weapon, the CYCLONE, and won
the TQ and the championship after winning 2 of the 3 main rounds. Meen
made 2nd with the PRO 4 after some pitched battles with Surikarn and other
strong drivers.
In the evening the prize awarding ceremony and banquet were held outside
and drivers had a fun time chatting and drinking. Lucky Thai drivers won
all the kit prizes in a drawing and many local drivers were already eager
to win kit prizes at the HPI Challenge in Thailand.
At the 2005 HPI Works Challenge in Singapore held with the participation
of Atsushi, Surikarn and top drivers from Singapore and Thailand, all
the drivers fully enjoyed the world-level driving performance, made their
best efforts for their own goals and left the site, looking forward to
seeing each other again.
