Singapore HPI Invitational Challenge 3 The 2006 Singapore HPI Invitational Challenge 3 was held in Singapore, the land of perpetual summer, on 28th and 29th of October, 2006. As RC gains greater popularity in Singapore, the Singapore Marine Parade RCMC started an international race event this year with distributors of major brands in Singapore. After holding truggy and GP race events earlier this year, they had an EP Touring Car race in October as the last event in 2006. Located at the center of Southeast Asia including Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand, Singapore is one of the best countries to host an international event. With TV crews and many spectators, the event made an exciting weekend for the whole nation. HPI was the main sponsor of the event, aiming at vitalizing the RC market in Singapore. Nicholas Lee (Team Associated), a 15-years-old driver leading the RC racing world in Singapore, and Alvin Koh famous for his steady driving style gathered great attention. Simon Feigi, a promising Australian driver who wrote the Cyclone review, came with the staff of the Racing Lines, an Australian RC magazine. Jake Zarb, a top racer in Australia, also participated in the event. Since brushless motors were allowed this year, most drivers used a brushless motor for the race in the big East Coast Park Raceway. Through 6 qualifying rounds and 3 final rounds, Alvin Koh won TQ and 1st and 2nd final rounds to win the championship! Ong Chee Yong finished 2nd in the qualifying and final rounds. Despite many troubles in the qualifying, Nicholas Lee came in 3rd in the finals.In spite of Despite the lack of practice due to rain, two Australian drivers finished 4th and 5th to show their great potential. The Australian drivers enjoyed their time with local drivers after the event. The RC racing level in Singapore becomes higher each year. The dates for the 2007 Singapore HPI Invitational Challenge have been already set and let's look forward to the event expected to have even more international participation. |
